Centre sanctions 91 roads, 30 bridges to Arunachal under PMGSY: Rijiju

The commitment of the double-engine governments led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi at the Centre and Chief Minister Pema Khandu in the state is finally getting its due

ITANAGAR: The Union Rural Development Ministry has sanctioned 91 roads with a total length of 720.75 kilometres and 30 long span bridges to Arunachal Pradesh under the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY), a central flagship programme, union minister Kiren Rijiju said on Sunday. The total estimated cost of the projects is 757.58 crore, the union minister for Earth Sciences, who was pursuing early implementation of the pro-jects, said in a statement here. "The commitment of the double-engine governments led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi at the Centre and Chief Minister Pema Khandu in the state is finally getting its due. A lot more development projects will come up over the next five years," Rijiju said.

The minister added that the projects would support improving rural connectivity for 500 habitations in the districts of Changlang, Dibang Valley, East Kameng, East Siang, Kamle, Kra Daadi, Kurung Kumey, Lepa Rada, Lohit, Longding, Lower Dibang Valley, Lower Siang, Lower Subansiri, Namsai, Pakke Kessang, Papum Pare, Siang, Tawang, Tirap, Upper Siang, Upper Subansiri, West Kameng, and West Kameng and West Siang. "All these roads and bridges will provide improved connectivity with all-weather surfacing to remote and far-flung habitations in the state for overall socio-economic development," he said. Improved surface connectivity would also help students, farmers, and patients with better accessibility to schools, agricultural markets, and health centres. Improved access to education centres will also help with better school attendance and higher levels of education, Rijiju added.
