ITANAGAR: The Peoples' Party of Arunachal (PPA) has asked the PemaKhandu government to take the people of the State along with a clear-cut vision of peace, progress, unity and development.

The government has been found wavering and procrastinating on many issues such as ensuring an Article 371A-type Constitutional status for the State and doing away with the 'Arunachal Pradesh Statehood Act-1987', a long-pending demand, the lone regional party of the State said in a statement here.

"Not very long ago, the government in a hurriedly convened Assembly session amidst the COVID-19 pandemic passed a one-point resolution in favour of the demand for Sixth Schedule status for the State. This indicated the people are more in favour of autonomous council bodies for some regions of the State and have rejected the relevance of democratic decentralisation," PPA Secretary General KalingJerang said in the statement.

Intermittent announcement of Panchayat election in the State by the Chief Minister has thus created confusion, he added.

"Considering the dilemma, the PPA would like to appeal to the government to take a firm stand on the status of the Sixth Schedule demand and the Panchayat election pending for more than a year," said Jerang. The party also urged the government to clear the confusion and spell out its policies.
