ITANAGAR: Two hundred and forty eight (248) more people tested positive for COVID-19 in Arunachal Pradesh, pushing the virus tally in the frontier State to 49,916, a senior health department official said here on Sunday.

The death toll in the north-eastern State increased to 240 with three more females succumbing to the infection on Friday, he said. The ladies with cormobidites from Capital Complex Region, Lower Subansiri and Lohit district died while undergoing treatment at various health facilities, State Surveillance Officer (SSO) Dr Lobsang Jampa said.

The Capital Complex Region recorded the highest number of new cases at 68, followed by Lower Subansiri (42), West Kameng and Lohit at 13 cases each, Upper Subansiri, Lower Siang, Lower Dibang Valley and East Siang at 11 cases each and Upper Siang at 10 cases.

Seven fresh cases each were also reported from Papumpare, Tawang and West Siang, six from Changlang, five from East Kameng, four each from Anjaw, Kamle and Shi-Yomi, three from Leparada, two each from Dibang Valley, Kra Daadi, Namsai, Siang and Tirap and one from Pakke Kessang, the SSO said.

Among the fresh cases, 226 were detected through rapid antigen tests, 17 through RT-PCR and 5 by TrueNat methods, the official said adding, 103 people were with symptoms. The active cases in the state now stand at 2,873, he said. As many as 404 patients were cured of the disease on Saturday taking the total number of recoveries in the State to 46,803, Jampa said.

The recovery rate among coronavirus patients in the State stands at 93.76 per cent while the active percentage stands at 5.75 and the positivity rate at 5.54 per cent, the official said.

The Capital Complex Region - comprising Itanagar, Naharlagun, Nirjuli and Banderdewa areas - has the highest number of active cases at 785, followed by Lower Subansiri (359), Papumpare (235), West Kameng (162) and Lohit at 145 cases. Altogether, 9,72,655 samples have been tested for COVID-19 in the State so far, including 4,469 on Saturday, Jampa said.

Meanwhile, State Immunization Officer (SSO) Dr Dimong Padung informed that a total of 8,78,856 people have been administered COVID-19 vaccine doses so far in the State since the inoculation drive began in January this year.
