ITANAGAR,: The NABARD-sponsored farm sector promotional fund (FSPF) project dedicated to oyster mushroom production reached its successful conclusion with the inauguration of ‘Wuken’ - a cutting-edge demonstration unit located in the picturesque Khamdu village in Changlang district of Arunachal Pradesh, on Monday. The ground-breaking initiative was skillfully implemented by the Bethel Life Care Charitable Trust (BLCCT) in collaboration with Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Jairampur. The ribbon-cutting ceremony for the demonstration unit was officiated by NABARD DDM Kamal Roy in the presence of Chandan Prasad, President of BLCCT, Thantol Mossang, BLCCT Coordinator, as well as several forward-thinking farmers and SHGs who enthusiastically participated in this momentous occasion.

The ‘Wuken’ unit showcases facilities, including two mushroom incubation rooms with air conditioning, one non-AC mushroom incubation room, two storage rooms for straw, a spawn inoculation room, a spawn incubation room, a straw cutting machine, and packaging machine units. The pioneering demonstration unit was made possible through NABARD’s generous support for mushroom seeds, equipment and materials, ground-level surveys, trainer and consultant charges, etc. During the FSPF project, a total of 25 farmers received assistance to establish ten mushroom production units at various locations. These units recorded an average production ranging from 50 to 60 kg per unit. With the launch of the demonstration and production unit, farmers are poised to capitalize on the forthcoming season, significantly increasing their production on a larger scale. Additionally, they can rely on the continued guidance and support of BLCCT and KVK Jairampur. In his keynote address, BLCCT president Chandan Prasad highlighted the various phases and activities undertaken throughout the project’s duration. Furthermore, farmers associated with the implementation units shared their first-hand experiences with the FSPF project on oyster mushrooms, underscoring its impact and success. The NABARD DDM emphasized the exceptional nutritional, medicinal, and dietary value of mushrooms.
