Guwahati: The border town of Tawang in Arunachal Pradesh got into a festive spirit once again while celebrating Maitree Diwas 2019 with fanfare and gusto to mark the spirit of friendship and bonhomie between the citizens of Tawang and the Indian Army.
The two-day socio –military – cultural extravaganza is organized by the Indian Army, Tawang Civil Administration and volunteers at the High Altitude Stadium and stands as a testimony to the spirit of solidarity and patriotic fervor that runs deep amongst the locals of Tawang District.
Rajnath Singh, Defence Minister was the Chief Guest of the event, and Pema Khandu, Chief Minister of Arunachal Pradesh the Chief Patron inaugurated the two-day celebrations alongside Lieutenant General Anil Chauhan, General Officer Commanding-in-Chief Eastern Command.
‘Know Your Army’ was the underlying theme of the event that enlightened the youth about the Armed Forces and motivated them to adorn the uniform and serve their motherland. The event commenced with vibrant cultural programmes culminating in a scintillating performance by military pipe bands. A display of weapons and equipment was organized by the Indian Army to increase awareness amongst people about the forces and to ignite in them a passion for the same. The Army also organized a medical camp jointly with the civil administration which provided free medical services to a large number of patients from far-flung villages.
In their respective addresses, the Defence Minister and Chief Minister both praised the constant support rendered by the Indian Army in road construction, medical camps, assistance during natural calamities and a plethora of activities for human resources development. They urged the people of Tawang and the Indian Army to further strengthen the existing bonds of friendship and solidarity and work towards a strong and prosperous country.
