Deputy Chief Minister Chowna Mein mulls over heritage of Mishmi tribes

Itanagar: Arunachal Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Chowna Mein on Monday directed Secretary Research Dani Salu to expedite the research work of the project ‘audio-visual documentation of cultural heritage of Mishmi tribes of Arunachal Pradesh’ especially on the indigenous healing practice of Idu Mishmi tribe.

Mein’s directive came during a meeting with Salu, Director Research Batem Pertin and German psychiatrist (MD), anthropologist & research scholar, Dr Gerhard Heller here, an official communiqué informed.

The deputy chief minister asked the department to complete the formalities of signing an agreement with Dr Heller immediately and let the work starts soon. He also asked the department to expedite the project on digital museum in the state capital which would showcase the rich cultural heritage of all the tribes of the state.

Dr Gerhard Heller who, hails from Heidleberg in Germany, has been doing research works in the state for the past 15 years. He had already made documentation on the traditional healing system of Idu Mishmi, Miju Mishmi, Digaro Mishmi, Monpa and Galo tribes of Arunachal Pradesh and had travelled in the nook & corner of the state.

Salu informed that the project would be implemented in a transparent manner and would be completed within the stipulated time of two years.

He also informed that the concept paper for the project on digital museum had already been submitted and it is under finalization, the communiqué added.
