Drug peddler arrested from Khonsa-Longding border

ITANAGAR: In its endeavour to eradicate the drug menace from the district, the anti-drug squad (ADS) of Tirap police led by Inspector W Kamhua, SI B Mossang and others on Friday arrested a lady drug peddler from the Khonsa-Longding border and recovered contraband items from her possession.

Based on intelligence inputs, the personnel of the anti-drug squad intercepted a vehicle bearing Assam registration number with a lady identified as P Gangsa and the driver A Wangsa and arrested her from the area in presence of the executive magistrate of Khonsa town, police said.

On search of the vehicle, 5.69 grams of suspected brown sugar concealed inside seven plastic containers were found along with cash, two mobile phones, an ATM card and a metallic spoon for measuring the drugs.

All the materials along with the vehicle were seized by police and a case under NDPS Act registered against the peddler at Dadam police station and further investigation is on, the sources said.

Police also apprehended the kingpin of the drug racket from the Tissa area in the district.

Tirap SP Kardak Riba while congratulating the ADS team, appealed to the people to cooperate with the district police in eradicating the menace of drugs and further requested them to come forward and share information about drug peddling.

"Only police working on their source will not be able to eradicate the menace unless the society comes forward," the SP said and assured to work dedicatedly to eradicate the menace of drugs from the district.

Tirap police also appreciated the executive magistrate of Khonsa town Ripi Doni for her cooperation.
