Drug peddlers arrested; heroin seized in Arunachal Pradesh

West Siang district police in Arunachal Pradesh arrested two drug peddlers and seized 10.54 gram heroin worth over Rs 5 lakh from their possession, police said here on Tuesday.

ITANAGAR: West Siang district police in Arunachal Pradesh arrested two drug peddlers and seized 10.54 gram heroin worth over Rs 5 lakh from their possession, police said here on Tuesday.

Based on information on September 17 about two persons transporting contraband substances from Likabali in Lower Siang district to Aalo in West Siang district, the police constituted a team with Aalo police station officer in-charge Duto Bagra, West Siang Superintendent of Police (SP) Abhimanyu Poswal said.

He said the police team set up a temporary naka at Darka bridge near Darka village and intercepted the vehicle at 10.15 pm and apprehended the peddlers - Mikjum Ete and Raju Vishkarma. The duo and the vehicle were thoroughly searched in presence of executive magistrate Maryom Karlo and Paktu Ao Youth Welfare Association members, and a soap case packed in a polythene containing heroin was recovered from their possession, the SP said.

Ete and Vishkarma were arrested and the contraband substance, two mobile handsets and the vehicle were seized. The SP said a case has been registered at Aalo police station under Section 21 (b)/27 (a) of the NDPS Act. The accused have been arrested and remanded to police custody, the SP added.
