WILLIAMNAGAR: The District Magistrate (DM) of East Garo Hills, Swapnil Tembe, has extended the lockdown and night curfew in the entire district under Section 144 of the Criminal Procedure Code (CrPC) and the Regulation 3 of Meghalaya Epidemic Diseases, COVID-19 Regulation, 2020 till 5 am of July 20.

Hence, the following have been prohibited: operations of weekly and regular markets, commercial, financial and educational institutions, movement of individuals between 9 pm and 5 am and gathering of five or more persons in public places, movement of persons above 65 years of age with co-morbidities, pregnant women and children below the age of 10 years, etc. The order issued in this regard also said that wearing of masks and maintaining social distancing in public places and offices is compulsory.

The shops in the district will remain open from 8 am to 2 pm; and the movement of vehicles will be allowed on odd and even number rule. According to the notification issued in this regard, Rongjeng and Williamnagar markets will remain closed on Saturdays and Sundays stated a release.
