ITANAGAR: The East Kameng Social Welfare & Cultural Organization (EKSWCO) in a memorandum submitted to the Chief Minister Pema Khandu on Thursday has sought his personal intervention in the contentious 81-km-long Seppa-Chayangtajo road construction.

The EKSWCO stated that the slow pace of work has disheartened the people of 6 circles from 8-Bameng and 9-Chayantajo assembly constituencies with no proper road connectivity till date.

The EKSWCO chairman Bharat Sonam in a statement also said that there should be proper investigation by the SIC on the contentious 81-km-long Seppa-Chayang Tajo road. The construction of the road began way back in the year 2008 with an amount of Rs 172 crore and is yet to be completed, he added.

Sonam said that the road is yet to be completed despite revised funding from the NEC. Out of the total amount sanctioned, only Rs 19.5 core is currently remaining.

Earlier, a meeting was also chaired by EKSWCO chairman Bharat Sonam, attended by Sports Minister Mama Natung, MLAs Tapuk Taku, Goruk Pordung and Hayeng Mangfi, and representatives of the All East Kameng District Students' Union (AEKDSU) to discuss the contentious issue.

EKSWCO also requested the Chief Minister to revive the 'Kameng River Festival' with an allocation of Rs 1.5 crore and construction of a welcome gate at the tri-junction of Seppa-Sagalee-Bomdila road with an estimate fund allocation of Rs 1 crore.

"EKSWCO feels that river festival is the only medium through which the people of the entire East Kameng, and otherwise already divided in many spheres can be moved and sensitized for important missions," Sonam said.

The organization requested to allocate the fund during the current financial year, so that the festival could be organized during the month of October 2021.

Sonam said that the new gate in the tri-junction will not only serve as direction to the tourist but also provide a resting point, catering pure drinking water facilities is required.
