ITANAGAR: Arunachal Pradesh State Election Commissioner (SEC) HageKojeen has called upon the Election Observers (EOs) appointed for the ensuing panchayat and municipality elections slated for December 22, to create a level-playing field for all involved in the election process.

"The basic mandate of the State Election Commission is to conduct the local body polls in a free, fair and peaceful manner. So efforts must be made to create a level playing field as observers are the eyes and ears of the Election Commission," Kojeen said.

Addressing the Election Observers during a meeting at the Dorjee Khandu State Convention Hall here, Kojeen said they are expected to provide direct inputs to the commission regarding proper implementation of various election processes including the Model Code of Conduct.

He further advised the observers to display proper and dignified conduct before the eyes of the people while discharging their duties and responsibilities.

SEC Joint Secretary Tamune Miso and Deputy Secretary Habung Lampung briefed the Election Observers on the guidelines they will have to follow during the polls.

State Surveillance Officer Dr Lobsang Jampa explained in detail the SOPs on COVID-19 issued by the State Election Commission and the Central government.

Earlier in his introductory address, State Election Commission Secretary Nyali Ete spoke on the Constitutional and legal compulsions for conducting the local body elections in the State during the COVID-19 situation. In all, 35 Election Observers from across the State attended the meeting.
