Itanagar: Around 300 progressive farmers across West Siang district in Arunachal Pradesh attended the awareness programme on Stavia Medicinal Plants, tea cultivation, mushroom, vermicompose fertilizers and aromatic and medicinal plants on Sunday organised at Aalo, the district headquarters.
Resource person Assistant Director of Tea Board of India Arupjyoti Das, said that care and hard work is needed to pluck tea for 60-100 years and 30 varieties of tea can be grown though bank subsidies.
Stevia consultant from Guwahati Raju Boro while speaking on the occasion disclosed that stevia could be harvest 4-5 times a year and company is importing quality seeds for the farmers and exhorted the farmers form Farmers club of 500 members to cultivate on commercial basis.
CSIR senior scientists Dr Chandan Tamuly in his deliberation dwelt at length on various methods and techniques of farming through power Point Presentation.
Yomjum Yomgam, owner of one of the best working NGOs inthe state in various fields, also shared his experiences to farmers on self sustaining measures without depending on government.
Siang Farmer Federation’s Chairman Doi Ado and Secretary Nyakar Raksap said that the district is bestowed with one of the best fertile soils in the country and time has come for setting up a unique example in farming sector.
Four tier system of clubs right from grassroots level to apex body is being worked out and appealed all farmers to place all documents to obtain government subsidy.
Retired additional deputy commissioner Nyiken Lollen, former Commandant Reli Loyi, former principal Reke Bagra and retired deputy director of school education (DDSE) Bagra also shared their experiences on farming after retirements to be a part of the moment in the district.
The farmers had detail meetings in the interactive session on forming club at different levels, an official release informed.
