Itagar, Jan 28: At least 50 dwellings attached to shops were reduced to ashes in a devastating fire that broke out at bazaarline area of Dirang in West Kameng district on Saturday
The fire was so devastating that almost all belongings turned to ashes, West Kameng SP P N Khrimey said on Sunday.
However, no human casualties were reported.
Two fire tenders of state police were pressed into service while the Border Road Organisation and tiol Institute of Mountaineering and Allied Sports (NIMAS) provided five tankers to combat the blaze.
Officials could not assess the damage, but the victims said they lost several crores. The cause of fire also could not be established, the SP said, adding an investigation has been launched. The SP, Deputy Commission Dr. Sol Swaroop and other officers rushed to the spot and monitored the situation.
An inspection bungalow has been desigted as temporary relief camp and food has been maged by the ITBP.
Khrimey lauded the SSB, ITBP, local police, fire fighters and local residents for helping the victims and controlling the situation.
This is the second biggest fire incident in the state after the fire incident at Niti Vihar here on December 21 last which left 37 families roofless.
