Four ULFA-I cadres held in Changlang; arms & ammo seized by Security forces

ITANAGAR: Security forces in Arunachal Pradesh during a joint operation on Friday, apprehended four hardcore militants of the proscribed United Liberation Front of Asom-Independent (ULFA-I) and seized a huge amount of arms and ammunition from their possession. The ULFA-I cadres were held from the Indo-Myanmar border when they tried to sneak into Tirap district, Army sources informed.

The four rebels were apprehended by a joint team of Assam Rifles and district police near Border Post-162 on the Indo-Myanmar border adjacent to the Lazu area of the district, the sources said.

Based on intelligence inputs, columns of 9 Assam Rifles and 6 Assam Rifles along with the district police launched an operation at Changra, Kuthung and Shanka Havi areas under the Lazu Circle of the district; and apprehended the militants along with arms and ammunitions at around 06.30 am on Friday, the sources added.

The rebels — all from Assam — have been identified as self-styled (SS) sergeant major Tiksher Moran alias Arjun Asom (31 years of age) who hails from New Kathalguri village under Pengeri Police Station in Tinsukia district, SS sergeant Arup Dowarh alias Anchon Asom (36) from Dhakuakhana in North Lakhimpur district, SS sergeant Surjeet Dowarh alias Khamon Asom (34) from Margherita in Tinsukia district and SS sergeant Jintu Asom (26) who hails from Takuligaon in Tinsukia district.

The security seized four pistols including two US made, one Chinese and one Myanmar-made, magazines including live ammunitions, two cell phones, two badges of the outfit and one bag from their possession, the sources added.

On interrogation, it was revealed that the cadres were trained at Taga camp in Myanmar and were trained to carry out various extortion activities as well as sabotage activities against security forces in Upper Assam. The apprehended rebels have been handed over to the district police, informed the sources.
