Itanagar: Karate Association of India (KAI) general secretary Ambedkar Gupta on Friday said that the karatekas of Arunachal Pradesh, who have won numerous national and international medals, have high potentials to win more global laurels for India.
Addressing office bearers of Arunachal Karate of Association (KAA) here, he said that discipline is the hallmark to prove that Arunachal is the temple of karate for which the credit goes to KAI president Likha Tara, who has been reelected AKA president for seventh consecutive term since 1994.
“India’s poor position in karate graph earlier above 100 has changed to 75 among 215 karate playing nations,” Ambedkar Gupta said and gave the credit to Tara for the spectacular performance of Arunachal karatekas globally to push up India’s status.
Expressing happiness that a young team would lead AKA, he exhorted the karatekas to maintain the same spirit to perform much better in the future to win many more global medals.
“State karatekas Raja Yangfo and Pranaya Sharma did very well in Asian Karate Championship to receive global applause even without winning any medal while Prime Minister Narendra Modi nominated NE sports icon Mary Kom to Rajya Sabha,” Tara said, adding sports achievements bring self-recognition.
He advised the karatekas of the state to dream India’s top position by practicing hard with commitment as ‘sky is the limit’.
“AKA’s unity and administrative acumen by maintaining equality raised my position to the national level to represent the nation globally,” Tara said, adding that massive plans are afoot for training to improve skills eyeing national, global and Olympic medals.
