ITANAGAR: The COVID-19 tally in Arunachal Pradesh rose to 39,563 even as 478 more persons tested positive for the infection during the last 24 hours, said State Surveillance Officer (SSO) Dr Lobsang Jampa here on Sunday.
This is the highest single-day spike of coronavirus cases recorded in the State during July. Earlier, the north-eastern State had recorded the highest number of single-day positive cases of 497 on May 29 this year. The State also reported highest number of 426 cases in a day on July 6 last.
The death toll in the frontier State increased to 188 with two more persons succumbing to the disease on Saturday. The active cases in the land-locked State now stand stands at 3,741.
An 84-year-old man from the Capital Complex Region died at the Dedicated COVID Hospital (DCH) at Chimpu, near here on Saturday, due to acute respiratory distress syndrome with COVID Pneumonia. He was suffering from Diabetes Mellitus. Another man of 75 years of age from Anjaw district with comorbidities, died at his residence on Saturday due to acute respiratory distress syndrome.
The Capital Complex Region recorded 131 fresh cases followed by Lohit with 54, West Kameng (48), East Siang (39), Papumpare (28), Longding (26), Lower Dibang Valley (22), Lower Subansiri and Tawang with 17 each, Upper Subansiri (15) and West Siang at 13 cases.
A total of 12 cases each were also reported from Changlang and Kamle, eight from Anjaw; seven from Siang; six each from East Kameng and Namsai; five each from Shi-Yomi and Tirap; two each from Dibang Valley and Lower Siang; and one each from Upper Siang, Pakke Kessang and Leparada respectively, added the SSO.
Among the fresh cases, 439 were detected through Rapid Antigen Tests; 17 through RT-PCR; and 22 by TrueNat methods, said the official, adding that 168 people have symptoms.
As many as 293 patients were cured of the disease on Saturday taking the total number of recoveries in the State to 35,634. The recovery rate stands at 90.07 per cent while the active percentage stands at 9.45 and the positivity rate at 8.21 per cent.
The Capital Complex Region -- comprising Itanagar, Naharlagun, Nirjuli and Banderdewa areas -- has the highest number of active cases at 820, followed by West Kameng (353), East Siang (299), Lohit (274), Papumpare (238) and Upper Subansiri at 202 cases. Altogether, 8,18,139 samples have been tested for COVID-19 in the State so far, including 5,818 on Saturday, added Dr Jampa.
Meanwhile, State Immunisation Officer Dr Dimong Padung said that a total of 7,07,842 people have been administered COVID-19 vaccine doses so far in the state since the inoculation drive began in January this year.
