ITANAGAR: If you are very active on social media, you have probably come across a picture of cherubic Northeast Indian women holding a huge radish freshly out of a farm in Kanubari, Arunachal Pradesh.

Where was this picture clicked?

According to our sources, the viral picture was clicked in Kanubari, Arunachal Pradesh and it is 254 km from State capital Itanagar towards west.

Why has this picture gone viral?

Grown by local farmers, the radish in the picture weighs a whopping 5 kilos. Radish normally weights generally range 20.3 oz, i.e. around 500 grams.

What makes the gigantic radish even more special is that it was reportedly grown by using traditional methods.

At the market, we discovered that 1 bunch of common summer radishes weighed ½ to ¾ pound and contained 12 to 14 radishes. Our sample bunch yielded 1 cup of thinly sliced radishes or 1 ¼ cups when diced. You need about 1 ½ bunches or 20 to 25 radishes, depending on the size, to equal 1 pound. From your 1 pound purchase, you can produce 1.67 cups of sliced radishes.

There are many different varieties of radishes but 2 general categories are summer and winter. People usually envision summer varieties when they think of radishes. These have the typical 1-inch round shape with a red/dark pink skin and white colour inside.

Reacting to the picture a Facebook user, wrote, "I think a Northeast Ministry for organic vegetables/fruits/bamboo etc has to be set up and marketed professionally to the international market. Farmer to the customer without middlemen."

Meanwhile, netizens have also showered their love on the smiling women, with many marvelling at how happy they seem.

Notably, in 2019 in Assam's North Guwahati also farmers were taken by surprise when a similar incident of organically grown radish flourished in their farms.

Earlier in 2020 in Manipur, a picture of cabbage grown by local farmers weighing a whopping 7.5 kilos has gone viral.

It is to be mentioned that cabbage weights generally range from 500 to 1,000 grams (1 to 2 lb). What makes the gigantic cabbage even more special is that it was reportedly grown by using traditional methods. At a time when naturally grown green and leafy vegetables have become an oddity, this picture.
