NAHARLAGUN: Taking strong exception on the surge of COVID-19 cases in the State, Itanagar Municipal Corporation (IMC) on Tuesday launched the sanitization programme for carrying out sanitization activities within Itanagar Capital Complex.
IMC Mayor Tame Phassang flagged off the sanitization vehicles here at Yupia-Itanagar-Naharlagun junction in presence of Itanagar Capital Region (ICR) Deputy Commissioner TaloPotom, SP- ICR Jimmy Chiram, Commissioner-IMC C. Chukhu and other officials.
Speaking on the occasion, Phassang informed that the sanitization team will extend their services to COVID Hospitals, check gates, government institutions, banks and other COVID prone areas as and when required.
"The sudden surge of the second wave of COVID-19 in the State including in capital, complex is a matter of concern for everyone. Hence, IMC has decided to sanitize all the public places which are COVID-19 prone," he said.
Phassang also urged the people to co-operate with the administration during this major containment period of one week in the ICR. "Though it is tough for all of us to bear another lockdown but we have to extend our support to the administration and state government to contain the spread of COVID-19 in the capital and state as a whole," he added.
Citing the example of other countries like China, Italy, USA, Phassang said those countries now have minimal mortality rate and almost contain the virus just because of maintaining proper SOPs. a
"So, the State government need your corporation to contain the pandemic, let's follow SOPs and stop spreading of this virus in our country, State and in our capital," Phassang said.
