ITANAGAR: The Itanagar Police officer in charge of Phassang Simi said that eight people have been arrested for physically assaulting the employees of the 'Meat and Eat's' outlet here on Friday.

Speaking to the reporters today, Simi said that 8 people have been arrested in connection with the 'Meat and Eat's eatery employee brutal assault case which occurred on Wednesday.

Simi said all the 8 people who were volunteers of Itanagar Market Welfare Association (IMWA) present that day were all arrested. Subsequently, they have been booked under relevant sections of IPC (inflicting grave injuries, trespass, threatening, group attack).

However, the OC revealed that all the sections are bailable offences and currently 8 people have been detained at the Itanagar police station.

Two days ago, an employee of the 'Meat & Eat ' eatery has been brutally thrashed by volunteers of IMWA.

The viral CCTV footage of the incident in which volunteers were seen brutally thrashing the employee with chairs, physically widely circulated on social media has shocked everyone including the business community.

The incident drew widespread criticism from all sections of society- for the association formed to work for the welfare, and to safeguard the business community.

Meanwhile, Mayor IMC, Tame Phasaang, who visited the eatery on Friday afternoon to know the ground realities, interacted with the proprietor of the eatery and assured justice to the victim.

"We will organize sitting at the highest level. We will not leave this issue in the middle. It is the responsibility of the IMC which is the official license issuing authority as notified by the state government in 2015 as well as the constitution of India to look into such issues under its jurisdiction, ' added Mayor

However, the Mayor did not disclose what measures would be initiated to protect the license holders and taxpayers, but assured justice to the victim and initiate action following government guidelines to ensure that such incidents do not reoccur.
