ITANAGAR: The Itanagar Traffic Wardens (ITW) held its first indefinite peaceful dharna, following the alleged failure of the State Government to address their two-point demands, at Tennis Court near here on Monday.

ITW has been demanding the State Government to regularize the ITWs under the Home department and introduction of ITW in Traffic cell, Itanagar. Speaking to the reporters, ITW Lomra Tapa said, "The State Government has been repeatedly ignoring the genuine demands of the traffic wardens." He also said that the dharna would go on till their demands were met.

Tapa said that ITWs have been serving since 2011 till date and earlier they were appointed on master roll basis. But this system was removed in 2017 by appointing them as contingency under the Deputy Commissioner of Itanagar.

"The State Government has already appointed permanent Deputy Superintendent of Police for Traffic cell. Now, why is the State Government reluctant to include ITWs under Traffic Cell?" he said.

He added that there were around 158 ITWs waiting for the positive response from the home department.

Earlier in a press briefing, Home Minister Bamang Felix had assured to observe and study the grievances of ITWs and accordingly resolve the matter.
