Journalist Jason Khangthing laid to rest

NONGTHAM: The mortal remains of young journalist, Jason Khangthing, was laid to rest with full rituals at his native village of Nongtham under Kharsang Circle in Changlang district. A large number of villagers, well wishers, family members, and members of the media fraternity attended the rites to pay their last tributes to the departed soul.

Jason Khangthing lost his life on the line of duty on April 5. He was on his way to report on the Miao-Vijaynagar Road when his bike collided with the trolley of a tractor.

Attending the funeral ceremony, president of the 'Arunachal Pradesh Union of Working Journalist (APUWJ) Amar Sangno shared his memories with Jason and reflected on the short but fruitful journey of (late) Jason Khangthing in the field of journalism.

He also expressed his gratitude to the villagers and well wishers for attending the funeral in such a large number, adding that it demonstrates their love and support to a journalist as well as their son of the soil. "I am really amazed to witness such spontaneous love and support; please continue supporting the members of the bereaved family,'' appealed Sangno.

While responding to the appeal of Nongtham youths and GaonBurah, Sangno assured that every possible helps will be extended to the family members of the Jason from media fraternity of the State.

Representing the AEDMA (Arunachal Electronic & Digital Media Association), SanggeDroma extended solidarity with the family members. He further informed the gathering that as a mark of respect to the departed soul and his passion for the journalism team, the Arunachal Today -- where Jason worked -- will initiate an annual award in his name.

Earlier, Chief Minister PemaKhandu also expressed his condolence and extended financial assistance to perform the last rites. Deputy Chief Minister also condoled the demise of the journalist and extended solidarity with members of the bereaved family.

Among others who attended the funeral were Minister for UD & Town Planning, KamlungMossang, Diyun –Borduma MLA SamlungMossang, senior public leader SethaiSena, and PRI members.
