Judge sentenced man to 20 years imprisonment for sexually assaulting minor in Arunachal

A special judge in East Siang district of Arunachal Pradesh has sentenced a person to 20 years of imprisonment with a fine of Rs 10,000 under section 6 of the (POSCO) Act for sexual assault on a minor.

ITANAGAR: A special judge in East Siang district of Arunachal Pradesh has sentenced a person to 20 years of imprisonment with a fine of Rs 10,000 under section 6 of the Protection of Children Against Sexual Offences (POSCO) Act for sexual assault on a minor. The judge Tageng Padoh pronounced the sentence on Job Modi (20), the accused from Mariayang village in Siang district, as he was found guilty of committing aggravated penetrative sexual assault against the 4-year-old daughter of his cousin sister.

A FIR was lodged on February 20, 2019 at Mariyang Police station by the mother of the victim stating that the accused had sexually assaulted her daughter and accordingly, a case was registered against him. The mother further told the police that Modi is a maternal uncle by relation and he was staying in her house for the last 11 months, an official communique informed here on Wednesday.

According to the FIR, the mother of the victim went to the school of her daughter at Yingkiong to pay the school fees where the teacher informed that the girl was frequently urinating in the school which was unusual. The victim's mother, when asked the girl, informed about her ordeal.

The Judge while pronouncing the judgment in the open court said as the victim was below 12 years of age the accused has committed an offence under section 5 (m) (n) of the POCSO Act and the accused was found to have committed aggravated penetrative sexual assault to the victim beyond reasonable doubt, thereby sentenced him to 20 years imprisonment, the comminique added.
