Itanagar: Karate Association of India (KAI) president Likha Tara, who had led 12-member karate team to take part in six-day 11th World Karate Federation Cadets, Junior and U21 Championship in Chile capital at Santiago de Chile from October 23 last, informed that the Latin America’s most prosperous country is in turmoil.
This worst unrest in three decades claimed 18 lives prompting the President to expand the state of emergency beyond capital while curfew is imposed after 7 pm. Karatekas of many nations have gone back and his team would also return as conducting the championships is well neigh impossible, Tara informed over the telephone.
However, he said that he would be heading to London to attend the meeting of the Commonwealth Karate Federation as announced by its president Soni Pille.
He will be representing India in the meeting for the first time, added Tara who is from Arunachal.
Interestingly, the 12-member Indian team included four Arunachalee karatekas Anand Cheri, Bahadur Ekke, Atum Sono and Nani Leriak, who are national gold medalists. IANS
