Leparada district in Arunachal Pradesh achieves ODF (plus) status

ITANAGAR: In a significant milestone, the newly created Leparada district has become the first district in the state to achieve open defecation-free (plus) status. This distinction signifies the significant progress made by the district in enhancing sanitation and solid liquid waste management, ultimately improving the overall quality of life for its residents, Swachh Bharat Mission (Grameen) Mission Director S. Yomcha said. He said all the gram panchayats of 82 villages in the district have been declared ODF plus in various categories, such as Aspiring-74 village, Rising category, and 7 villages in Model category. The journey of the district to ODF Plus status has been a result of dedicated effort made by the district administration, the Public Health Engineering and Water Supply department, and the active participation of the general public, Yomcha said.

The mission director said the achievement will certainly lead to a better quality of life for its residents, contributing to the overall development of the district. It may be mentioned that the SBM (G)-Ph-II was launched by the government of India with the key objective of sustaining the ODF status of villages and improving the level of cleanliness in rural areas through solid and liquid waste management (SLWM) activities, making all villages ODF Plus.
