Lockdown in Arunachal capital extended by 2 weeks due to rise in Covid-19 cases

Keeping in view the continuous rise in Covid-19 cases in Arunachal Pradesh Capital, the administration has decided to extend the lockdown in the Capital Complex region for another 14 days from May 17 morning.

ITANAGAR: Keeping in view the continuous rise in Covid-19 cases in Arunachal Pradesh Capital, the administration has decided to extend the lockdown in the Capital Complex region for another 14 days from May 17 morning.

The Capital Complex region – comprising Itanagar, Naharlagun and Banderdewa areas, is under lockdown for seven days since May 10.

Capital Deputy Commissioner Talo Potom during a virtual press conference on Saturday informed that the lockdown would come into force from 5 am on May 17 and would remain applicable till 5 am on May 31.

"The lockdown is being imposed as a precautionary measure taking into consideration the sudden spurt in the number of Covid-19 positive cases in the region," Potom said.

The DC said contact tracing would be intensified during the lockdown period and further appealed to all the citizens to strictly follow the SoPs.

On availability of essentials, the DC said that provision would be made in the respective colonies and sectors in coordination with the police and market associations.

He assured that the people would not face any issues.

Potom added that operation of all shops and business establishments except ration, meat, vegetable and dairy product shops, shall remain closed. However, certain shops in sectors and colonies would be allowed to open on rotation basis.

"Movement of people and vehicular traffic would be restricted except those engaged in delivery of essential services," the DC said adding facility would be in place for home delivery of LPG cylinders and other essentials.

Meanwhile, the government has also decided to impose lockdown in Tawang district keeping in view the spurt in Covid-19 cases, Principal Secretary (Health) Dr Sharat Chauhan informed.
