ITANAGAR: The Capital Traffic cell, along with the capital police, conducted its first mass motor vehicle checking on the Itanagar-Naharlagun National Highway near Nyedar Namlo on Saturday.

Speaking to the reporters, Capital SP Jimmy Chiram informed that while vehicle checking is a regular duty, this time it is being done on a mass scale, including two and four wheelers, where every safety measure while driving and vehicle documents are being verified.

He said that such checking is necessary to create awareness among the people about the rules and regulations, and also ensure that the people are following the basic guidelines of driving.

"The checking is to ensure that people are using the High Security Registration Plate (HSRP) issued by the DTO. Other verifications like driving license, registration certificate, pollution certificate etc., were also done on the day," he said, adding that any person found violating rules was fined according to the prescribed MV rules.

Chiram also informed that there has been reduction in traffic congestion as well as road accidents in the past one year. However, there are few cases of road accidents due to rash driving, which can also be avoided if the traffic rules are being followed properly. He also appealed to the public to follow the rules while driving to avoid traffic congestion.

Meanwhile, Deputy SP (traffic cell) Nobin Jomoh instructed every traffic policeman to ensure that the vehicle number plate is not tampered with and has proper HSRP.
