Mayor Tame Phassang urges students to take up Yoga

Along with the rest of the nation, 8th International Day of Yoga was also celebrated by the Itanagar Municipal Corporation

ITANAGAR: Along with the rest of the nation, 8th International Day of Yoga was also celebrated by the Itanagar Municipal Corporation (IMC) in collaboration with the Department of Health & Family Welfare here at Siddhartha Hall on Tuesday.

Along with Mayor Tame Phassang, Director of Health Services Dr M Lego, IMC corporators, medical staff and school children participated in the Yoga event.

Speaking on the occasion, Mayor briefed the gathering on how Yoga went global and, with the noble effort of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, June 21 has been adopted as the International Day of Yoga (IDY) by the United Nations.

He also suggested the gathering, especially students and youths to do Yoga in their daily life. "We should not practice Yoga on a specially occasion or IDY but we should practice it daily and make it our routine," he said.

Moreover, along with physical exercise, Yoga is also helpful for the mental peace that helps to dispel depression and also enhances concentration on work as well as in studies for students, said the Mayor.

At PASIGHAT: International Day of Yoga Day was also observed all over East Siang with people from various walks of life, including students and children, enthusiastically participating in the event.

IYD was celebrated at the Town Club here in Pasighat, organized jointly by the district administration and Department of Sports & Youth Affairs, Government of Arunachal Pradesh, commemorating Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav.

Local MLA Kaling Moyong, DC Tayi Taggu, SP Sumit Kumar Jha and ADC Taddo Borang, councillors, SDO Oli Perme, CEO Pasighat Smart City Corporation Ltd Dr Manjuli Komut, students, , members of NGOs, Art of Living and PRIs joined the Yoga Day celebrations.

Moyong urged the youth to make Yoga as part of their daily life.

The Yoga session was conducted by Ravider, teacher, Art of Living, Pasighat.

During the one-hour-long Yoga session, he explained the benefits of practicing various Yoga asanas for overall mental & physical well-being .

International Day of Yoga was also observed at the Government Higher Secondary School, Mebo and Auditorium Sille Government Higher Secondary under Ruksin Sub-Division. The ICDS Unit, East Siang also organized International Day of Yoga in all the Anganwadi centres.

The event was also observed by the inmates and staff of the Drug De-addiction Centre at Jarkong in Pasighat. The East Siang police also observed IYD.

The 8th International Day of Yoga was also celebrated at North Eastern Institute of Ayurveda & Medicine Research (NEIAFMR), Pasighat in a befitting manner on the theme of 'Yoga for Humanity'.

Students from various schools of Pasighat town participated in the programme along with scientists, doctors and staff of the Institute. Dr Robindra Teron, Director, NEIAFMR briefed about the importance of Yoga, especially for the students as a mantra for development of concentration.
