BORDUMSA: Along with the rest of the nation, Bordumsa-Diyun in Changlang district also observed the birthday of Dr Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan with a daylong programme. Somlung Mossang, MLA of 49 Bordumsa-Diyun Legislative Constituency in Changlang District of Eastern Arunachal Pradesh also extended his warm greetings to the teachers and staff of the schools and the Education department on the occasion. Somlung Mossang, however, through his workers and office bearers, felicitated the entire 715 teaching and non-teaching staff of the schools across the constituency with the traditional Assamese 'Phulam Gamosas' and also gifted each of them with exquisite tea and coffee sets.

"Next to the biological parents, the teachers play the role of parents for the students. They help, mould and train the young minds and also help them in fostering the values and become valuable assets to the society and the nation," said Mossang during his telephonic interaction with The Sentinel. He also assured the teachers of Bordumsa and Diyun Circle to adequately provide them better amenities and bring about a conducive working condition in the educational institutions and thereby enable the teachers to tackle the challenges and thus help them in the effective delivery of their holistic services.

"We have physically met, wished and formally conveyed the message of the local MLA to 317 teachers which includes 200 in 35 government schools and 113 in eight registered private schools, and extended the token of appreciation to all during separate programmes held at the respective school premises in Diyun Circle," said Tapan Bikash Chakma, adding, "The services of four Coordinators of the Block Resource Centre were also acknowledged for their roles in promoting the cause of education."

"We felt immensely touched on being honoured, felicitated and gifted by the local MLA who has recognized our services and dedication towards the society," said Kusha Dhowja Sahu, the Principal (In-charge) of Bordumsa Higher Secondary School.

Ongla Umban the Principal (In-charge) of Government Middle school at Dumsa village said that "appreciations and recognizations to all the teachers and non-teaching staffs in such a wide aspect without any discrimination of the status of the respctive school is a rare phenomenon, and it would definitely bear the desirable fruits in the days to come in the Bordumsa Circle."

Meanwhile, the significant day was celebrated in all the schools across the length and breadth of Bordumsa-Diyun with various activities. The life and role of Dr Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan as a teacher and philosopher occupied the centre of the theme among the students and teachers. The teachers were offered gifts by the students and various cultural programmes were also held in the classrooms and school auditoriums as expressions of love, respect and regard towards the teachers. Significantly some students also reflected on the disturbing aspects of moral degradation and loss of ethical values among a section of students and their indifferent attitude towards the teachers. Among other issues touched upon by different speakers were professional insecurity of teachers, and their deplorable working conditions rising above which the teachers silently render their selfless services.
