ITANAGAR: MLA Tapuk Taku has appealed to the State government to immediately constitute a fact-finding committee of experts to find out the specific reason behind the change in water color of Kameng River and fish floating dead in the river.

Speaking to this correspondent, Taku said that the matter was serious as there was no specific conclusion as to why the river had turned suddenly dark, thereby killing tonnes of aquatic life. He said that the sudden change in the colour of Kameng River might be due to a huge landslide in the upper belt of the district.

"There may be many reasons for the situation. Therefore, the State government should immediately constitute a fact-finding committee team to expedite the situation at the earliest," he said.

He also appealed to the public of the district to refrain from consuming as well as selling the fish that had been bought from the river on Friday morning. At the same time, people should avoid venturing to the riverside without any reason, he added.

Taku, who is a legislator from the 10th Seppa East Assembly constituency, left for the district to assess the situation.
