Mortal Remains Of 7 Jawans Hit By Avalanche Found

The incident unfolded when the seven soldiers had gone out for patrolling duty at Maming haat in Janga Basti.

Itanagar: The bodies of the seven Indian Army soldier who went missing in Kameng sector in Arunachal Pradesh has been found on 8 February. They were hit by an avalanche on 6 February and went missing.

The incident unfolded when the seven soldiers had gone out for patrolling duty at Maming haat in Janga Basti, which lies at a towering altitude of over 14,000 feat, and they were subsequently struck by an avalanche.

Thereafter, they could not be traced and their corpses were finally recovered on 8 February. Search and rescue operations began as soon as the incident came to light.

"Search and rescue operations are currently underway. Specialised teams have been airlifted to assist in rescue operations," the Defense PRO Tezpur said on 7 February.

It is to be noted that the area has been experiencing harsh weather conditions with heavy snowfall since the past few days. 

The Kameng sector is a sparsely populated and a forested area and it is located at a massive height of over 14,000 feat. This area lies in India's easternmost frontier, bordering China and Bhutan.

Earlier, Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Pema Khandu had prayed for the safety of the missing Army personnel.

The CM also took to this official Twitter handle to express his concern regarding their safety and well-being.

"Praying for the safety of Army personnel hit by the avalanche in Arunachal and hope that they be rescued safely as early as possible," the tweet read.

"Indian Army has always stood by us whenever in difficulties. We earnestly pray that no harm comes to our brave jawans," the tweet further added.
