‘Mother tongue defines everyone’: Wanglam Sawin

Itanagar: Khonsa East MLA Wanglam Sawin on Tuesday stressed on the need to preserve one’s mother tongue saying that it is the only medium through which aged-old traditional culture of tribal communities can be preserved, protected and promoted. Gracing the Ollo Worang Juku Festival of the Ollo community at Lazu, the Extra Assistant Commissioner (EAC), Sawin said the mother tongue is the identity of the tribal communities which could define anybody in a society or a community as a whole, an official release informed.

While extending festival greetings to the people on the occasion, Sawin, who is also the Chairman of Arunachal Pradesh Energy Development Agency (APEDA), conveyed the messages of Deputy Chief Minister Chowna Mein and state BJP president Tapir Gao as they could not attend the celebration due to technical snag of the helicopter.

The MLA further appreciated the festival organizing committee for according him a warm reception.

Speaking on the occasion, state BJP unit secretary Tarh Tarak urged the community members to continue practising traditional culture for posterity. Tarh praised the organizing committee for the hospitality and presentation of hornbill headgear and the traditional Ollo dao. Tirap SP JK Meena, SE PWD, Jummo Geyi, head of departments chiefs, gaonburahs and people from various walks of life attended the celebration.
