ITANAGAR: The Arunachal unit of the National People's Party (NPP) has welcomed the decision of the State government led by Chief Minister Pema Khandu and Union Minister for Law & Justice Kiren Rijiju to rehabilitate and to make the permanent solution of the vexed Chakma-Hajong issue.
Speaking to reporters, the State president of NPP(AP) & MLA Roing Mutchu Mithi said 'though people of Arunachal have sympathy for the people of Chakma-Hajong on humanity ground but, people will never accept them as the indigenous people of this State. They cannot claim citizenship in Arunachal Pradesh. ''The door is closed here for them but windows to get citizenship on other states of India are open for them,''stated the president of NPP (AP).
He also cautioned that the State government should not amalgamate the Inter-state boundary and rehabilitation of the Chakma-Hajong issue. Both are two different important issues and must be deal it with different way. Moreover, NPP also urged the state government to be firm on these two important subjects, stated Mithi.
Further expressing concern over the uncontrolled populace of Chakma-Hajong in the State, the NPP President said, ''The population of the Chakma-Hajong community is increasing day by day. Unofficially, it is about 1,00,000 to 1,50,000 lakh which is much higher than most of our indigenous tribes and it will create demographic as well as political changes in the state if they get citizenship in Arunachal.
''We are aware of the recommendation of Supreme Court related to the citizenship to Chakma-Hajong and on the humanitarian ground we also support them but not & never in Arunachal Pradesh asserted Mithi while adding that the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) is not applicable in Arunachal Pradesh.
