National Socialist Council of Nagaland (NSCN) rebels surrender in Tirap district

Two ultras belonging to the Issac Muivah and Khaplang factions of the National Socialist Council of Nagaland (NSCN) laid down arms before Tirap district administration in Arunachal Pradesh

ITANAGAR: Two ultras belonging to the Issac Muivah and Khaplang factions of the National Socialist Council of Nagaland (NSCN) laid down arms before Tirap district administration in Arunachal Pradesh, a senior official from the district said.

The rebels surrendered before Deputy Commissioner Taro Mize in presence of police and officials of Assam Rifles on Monday, an official communiqué informed on Tuesday. The cadres who laid down arms include Janpu Nokbi (34), a self-styled private of the NSCN-IM, and Khunliam Sumpa (38) a self-styled second lieutenant of the NSCN-K. While Nokbi is a native of Bera village in Dadam circle, Sumpa belongs to Kheti village of Khonsa circle in the district. Sumpa had joined the NSCN-K in June 2004. Both the rebels have laid down his arms with a condition to live a normal life again with his family members, the DC said. They would be liable for legal action if they are found to be involved in any illegal or anti-national activities, Mize added.
