ITANAGAR, June 18: Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Pema Khandu said that the northeast region, which had been neglected in the past several decades, has witnessed a massive transformation in communication and other sectors after Prime Minister Narendra Modi took reign of the country in 2014. “Every state in the region has unique challenges and opportunities, which were recognized by Modi, and several reformative schemes have been sanctioned for the northeastern states in the last nine years,” Khandu said while addressing a mega BJP rally organised at Namsai district on Saturday.

The Maha Jan Samprak Abhayan (mega rally), second in the series, was organised to mark the nine-year completion of the Modi government at the Centre and the seven-year completion of the Pema Khandu government in the state. The rally was addressed by BJP president J.P. Nadda. “We are witnessing large-scale development in the state as well as other states in the region since the last nine years,” Khandu said, adding that connectivity was the biggest challenge for Arunachal Pradesh, but after the NDA came to power, people have witnessed a sea change in the sector. He added that earlier, the northeastern state was known for its remoteness as it was being neglected by the Congress regime.

After 2014, the northeastern state got major attention from New Delhi with frequent visits of union ministers and officers to oversee the pace of developmental projects, he quipped. “The Modi government is the only one who can fulfil the aspirations of the people of the state in terms of developmental activities on all fronts,” the chief minister pointed out. Speaking on the occasion, Deputy Chief Minister Chowna Mein, while appreciating the achievements of the central and state governments, highlighted various schemes and programmes initiated in the state. He added that after the BJP government came to power at the Centre, development percolated down to all the border blocks, and several significant initiatives were taken up under the Vibrant Village Programme (VVP) of the Centre. “The state government has tackled the chronic bandh culture in the state with iron hands,” Mein added.

State BJP President Biyuram Wahge, while congratulating the Modi government for completing nine glorious years in power, besides the successful seven years of the Khandu government in the state, expressed his gratitude to Modi for his blessing for the all-round development of the state. Wahge exuded confidence that the Khandu government would return to power next year with a thumping majority. The party’s general secretary, Zingnu Namchoom, who is also the MLA of Namsai, highlighted the developmental activities initiated in the state. Lok Sabha MP from Arunachal East parliamentary constituency Tapir Gao, in his address, appreciated Khandu and his team for the best financial management in the state and further appreciated Modi for his blessings towards the state and the region. He appealed to the party workers to reach the unreached and share information about all the schemes of the BJP government at the grass-roots level.

BJP’s national general secretary and in-charge of Arunachal Pradesh, Dilip Saikia, while highlighting the journey of India’s development from 2014 to 2023, said that due to decades-long negligence towards the region by the Opposition Congress, development was slow in every sector. “BJP is the biggest and strongest political party in the world, and India is rising very fast under the able leadership of Modi,” Saikia added.
