ITANAGAR: Asserting that there will be no shortage of development funds for Arunachal Pradesh, Union Minister Kiren Rijiju on Monday urged the people of the northeastern state to contribute towards the development of the country. The people of Arunachal Pradesh should reciprocate the contributions of the Center for the state’s development by contributing back to the growth of the country, the union Law and Justice Minister said while addressing the 37th Statehood Day of the state. “Nobody can develop our state single-handedly. For development, every stakeholder should put in concerted efforts,” Rijiju, who represents Arunachal East Parliamentary Constituency in the Lok Sabha, said.
With Prime Minister Narendra Modi attaching priority to the development of Arunachal Pradesh and I being the state’s representative at the Centre, there will be no dearth of funds for the state,” he added. The minister alleged that on earlier occasions, officers and ministers from the state needed to go to Delhi for sanctioning projects, too, by offering a high percentage of commission.
“Things have changed since Modi came to power in 2014. Now, no one needs to go to Delhi for projects that are being sanctioned by the Centre without any requests,” he pointed out.
Recalling the changes the state has witnessed since attaining statehood, Rijiju said that during NEFA days the state was not known to the people of the country and came into the limelight only after the 1962 Chinese aggression.
“I had seen aircraft first before vehicles, as we didn’t have road communication during our childhood. Now the scenario has changed, and the state has witnessed vast development in the connectivity sector in the last few years,” the minister said, recalling the contributions of all the people to the state since NEFA days. While paying tribute to the unsung heroes of the state who laid down their lives in the freedom struggle, Rijiju appealed to the youth to read about those people and know about their contributions to the state.
