ITANAGAR: The East Kameng District Superintendent of Police (SP) Rahul Gupta has said that the department has not found any involvement of PHED executive engineer (EE) Bharat Sonam in the attack on Sol Dodum and his members during the peaceful rally held on April 12, as claimed by the latter.

Gupta told the reporters that the case is still under investigation under his guidance and there is no partiality or any kind of prejudice in the investigation, as alleged by a few people.

He said the police have arrested the masked man, who was claimed to be Bharat Sonam by Dodum in the FIR. The masked man was arrested on the same day through the video footage provided by the complainant.

"The video footage along with the CCTV footage nearby the area was examined. So far there is no involvement of Sonam. Moreover, the police also examined the call detail record (CDR) but could not establish any involvement. However, we are investigating the conspiracy angle in the attack," he said.

He said, in case the attack is found to be the result of a conspiracy, then the department will accordingly take action.

Gupta also said that the police has so far arrested 11 people in connection to the case. Four people were arrested on the day of incident, while seven others were arrested on April 18 after CDR verification.

"We have registered a case (No.13/2022 u/s 323/324/341/427/34 IPC) immediately on the same day and accordingly investigation was initiated. During investigation, one vehicle and seven bamboo sticks were recovered," he said.

The police came to a conclusion that the attack was not an attempt to murder. There were no arms used in the attack during inspection in the place of occurrence. Moreover, the police could not find any lethal weapons. Even doctors confirmed that the injuries were caused due to the breaking of vehicle glass, which is minor.

"We wanted to ensure that no one is granted easy bail during the arrest of four people on day one. However, they were subsequently granted bail the next day by the district court," he said, adding that the police are making every effort to bring the case to an end.
