ITANAGAR: The northeast car rally, under the title Purvottar Bharat Parikrama, organized by the Eastern Command of the Indian Army to celebrate Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsava, was flagged off from the Tawang war memorial in Arunachal Pradesh on Thursday by DC Kesang Ngurup Damo, in the presence of Tawang Brigade Deputy Commandant Colonel J S Dodhy and other senior officers.

The rally, which started from Kolkata on March 22, reached Tawang on Tuesday, touching all eight north-eastern states and paying homage to the freedom fighters by visiting various war memorials in the region. The team, led by Brigadier K. M. Shende, visited different schools, distributed school bags, and interacted with state dignitaries and ex-servicemen. The team members also gave motivational talks in schools, motivating future citizens of the country to join the Indian armed forces and contribute to nation-building.

Brigadier Shende and his team made a courtesy call with Tawang DC on Wednesday. During their interaction with the DC, the team leader apprised him of the activities they had taken part in during their 5000 km long journey. The team had earlier visited the Mahabodhi orphanage home in Teli village, interacted with students of JNV Tawang, and visited the Tawang monastery. Earlier, Brigadier Shende presented the Parikrama souvenir from the Eastern Army Commander to state Chief Minister Pema Khandu through the DC, an official communiqué informed here.
