ITANAGAR: Security forces in Arunachal Pradesh apprehended a cadre of the National Socialist Council of Nagaland-Unification (NSCN-U) from Longding district, involved in an extortion racket and recovered cash and other documents from his possession, said Police.
Acting on a case filed at the Deomali Police Station regarding extortion calls received by the businessmen, shopkeepers and public leaders of Deomali area from suspected cadre of NSCN (U), Tirap district police along with swung into action and all the suspected locations were raided.
Based on specific intelligence inputs, a joint team of district police and army led by Deomali SDPO Topha Wangsu and Longding DSP Banghang Tangjang raided a house at Chattong Village under Kanubari circle of Longding district and arrested the cadre in the wee hours of Saturday, the sources said.
The arrested person, an over ground worker of the outfit, has been identified as Pongsa Wanpan, who along with his brother Honkai Wangpan, a self-styled private of the militant group, was running extortion racket at Deomali sub division of Tirap district since many days. Some cash and other documents were recovered from his possession, the police said, the sources added.
