ITANAGAR: Arunachal Pradesh's Environment and Forest Minister Mama Natung on Wednesday said that no proposal of the Border Roads Organization (BRO) for construction of roads in Arunachal Pradesh is pending with the State Government except one.

The Minister informed that all proposals submitted by the BRO to the State Government have been forwarded to integrated regional office (IRO) of the Union Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change.

The IRO holds bimonthly meetings of all stakeholders, like BRO, National Highways and Infrastructure Development Corporation (NHIDC) of the Union Ministry of Road Transport & Highways (MoRTH), the Army and ITBP to sort out all pending issues, he said, and regretted that most of these organizations do not attend such meetings.

"That is the main reason for inordinate delay in forest clearance of road proposals," he said, adding that he had suggested to BRO ADG (NE) KH Singh that a nodal officer be appointed to pursue with the Guwahati-based IRO to expedite their proposals and the latter has assured to do it soon.

Pointing out that the present Central Government has attached top priority to develop infrastructure, road, water and air connectivity in the Northeastern region, Natung said that development of more roads in this hilly state would boost connectivity to benefit the country, and Arunachal in particular.
