ITANAGAR: The Arunachal Pradesh State Commission for Women (APSCW) along with various other organizations have condemned the rape of an 11-year-old girl of Khasa Village at Longding.

While appreciating the Longing Police for arrest of the accused, the APSCW has asked the district Superintendent of Police (SP) to expedite the investigation of the rape and submit the charge sheet at the earliest.

The Commission has also requested the State government to provide compensation to the victim under the 'Arunachal Pradesh Victim Compensation Scheme-2011.

Concerned over the rise in crime against women and girl children across the State, the Commission has also requested the public to cooperate with the investigation team so that justice may be delivered to the victim and her family members.

Condemning such acts of brutality, the GinlongKhasa Students Union (GKSU) and the ShungkuhWangcho Women Welfare Society (SWWWS) have also demanded immediate punishment to the rapist under the 'Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act-2012'.

The women's society pointed out that the victim has suffered great trauma caused by the rape and also damaged genital injury. The child — who has also suffered psychological injury — has been referred for further treatment to the Assam Medical College & Hospital (AMCH) in Dibrugarh by the Community Health Centre of Longding.

"The scandalous behavior and dirty mindset of such people is a stigma to the entire society and will be a life threat to the innocent lives if exemplary punishment is not awarded to the accused," added the SWWWS.

Meanwhile, the GKSU has said that the crime against the child is against the moral beliefs of Wangcho society. It, therefore, demanded suitable punishment for the accused and immediate relief to the victim and her family.

The incident happened on December 6, 2020 when the 11-year-old girl was kidnapped and brutally raped by the accused identified as JanjamWangsu of Niausa Village in Longding. Subsequently, a first information report (FIR) was filed on December 9, 2020 at the Longding Police Station. a case (LDG/PS/Case/No-55/2020) was registered.
