ITANAGAR: In a major boost for the telecom sector in the State, an agreement for air fibre connectivity to provide better internet service and 3G network at Mechukha and Tato in the Shi-Yomi district of Arunachal Pradesh, under viability gap funding, was signed between the Department of IT & Communication and BSNL.

The pact was inked on Tuesday in presence of Doni Nich, Chairman of IT Council, IT Secretary Anirudh Singh, ITC Director Neelam Yapin Tana, official sources informed here on Wednesday.

The initiative was envisaged considering the long-pending connectivity gap in the strategic border district.

The completion of the project would bring people of the area under the digital map of the country, officials said.

The Arunachal Pradesh Government would provide the necessary funds for establishing the entire connectivity with a 30-metre mast, SPV, air fibre, shelter and fencing for intermediate stations. BSNL is expected to complete the work within six months.
