ITANAGAR: The Pan Arunachal Joint Steering Committee (PAJSC) has appealed to Chief Minister Pema Khandu for a round table meeting to resolve the APPSC paper leakage scam through discussion and bringing a logical conclusion to it. The committee also announced to reserve the demand of ‘null and void’, for legal scrutiny, citing that the particular demand has caused a standstill in the entire movement and therefore overshadowing the other crucial demands that deserve immediate attention. Therefore, the committee submitted a letter to the CM appealing for an appointment on November 29. Tadak Nalo, PAJSC Vice President, addressing the media at the press club on Wednesday, said that the committee has observed that the specific demand is potentially hindering their ongoing efforts to garner widespread support and obstructing decisive action from the state government in this critical matter.

He said that the demand for ‘null and void’ of the exam is now bestowed for legal discourse. However, he expressed confidence that civil society organisations, CBOs, student bodies, and parents of affected individuals will join forces to pursue the remaining 12-point demands without reservation. “Though the committee has reserved the outcome of ‘null and void’ for the legal deliberations, we appeal to the state government to immediately address the remaining 12 points demands. Also, there are a few additional demands that should also be acted upon,” he said.

The additional demands included the construction of a statue of honesty honouring Gyamar Padang at 6 Kilo, immediate revocation of the suspension order against PAJSC Chairman Techi Puru, a reward to the kiths and kins of Gyamar Padang, the implementation of the Arunachal Pradesh Public Examination (Measures for Prevention of Unfair Means) Act, 2023, after incorporating inputs from PAJSC, the immediate withdrawal of all charges against protesters, and compensation for those injured during the public bandh on February 17–18.

Furthermore, the PAJSC also demanded the announcement of the Gyamar Padang Bravery Award to recognize the indomitable spirit of the man who dared to challenge the corrupt forces. Highlighting the 14-month struggle of the PAJSC against the APPSC paper leakage scam, Nalo expressed discontentment towards the state government for the negligence and sidelined the issue without drawing a logical conclusion, which concerns the future of the youth. “We also want to send a clear message to the students that it’s not the PAJSC disrupting the commission to hold the examinations or form the commission. Moreover, it is the commission that is still working out comprehensive standard operating procedures for conducting exams,” he said.
