ITANAGAR: Arunachal Pradesh Home Minister Bamang Felix, who is currently out of station, on Monday, will meet the protesters from the Yobin community who, are on an indefinite hunger strike at IG Park Tennis Court here.
This was conveyed to the capital DC after the Home Minister’s office had been informed about the hunger strike by the Yobin community.
The capital DC informed that the protesters have been repeatedly urged to call off their hunger strike, and that the administration has displayed great restraint and sensitivity in dealing with the matter.
“Now that the meeting with the Minister is likely on Monday, the protesters should vacate the tennis ground peacefully and help in maintaining a peaceful atmosphere in the capital,” the administration said.
Doctors have been assigned to check on the health of the protestors. Four protesters have been taken to hospital by the administration for medical assistance.
The protestors are on an indefinite hunger strike since November 17 last demanding removal of Panchayati Raj voting rights extended to the Ex-Assam rifle servicemen settled in Vijoynagar area of Changlang district on a lease basis.
They alleged that “the rights are extended illegally, because there is no such constitutional provision for the ex-servicemen in the Panchayati system”.
They claimed that though several memorandums and representations have been submitted to the Changlang district administration and the State government, the problem has not been addressed so far.
