BOMDILA: To ensure better disposal of garbage in the Bomdila district Headquarters, Deputy Commissioner (DC) Karma Leki visited the already commissioned 'Solid Waste Management' Plant located at Khating Six-Mile in the district. The plant was constructed at an estimated cost of Rs 799.84 lakh.

The DC was accompanied by the engineers of UD&H (Urban Development & Housing) Bomdila, administrative officers and HODs (Heads of Departments).

Stressing the need for waste segregation at the household level itself to facilitate ease of work at the plant, DC Leki said that garbage bags both for the bio-degradable and non-degradable wastes — will be provided to all the households in Bomdila.

He directed the DHO (District Health Officer) and the DDA (Deputy Director of Agriculture) to procure vermicompost from the plant. He further directed the Bomdila UD&H (Urban Development & Housing) to aggressively promote the sale of vermicompost at a rate lower than the ones in the market. The DVO (District Veterinary Officer) was also directed to provide free cowdung for vermin compositing from its farm located at Warjung which lies near to the SWM Plant.

Besides the Troumel and the Windrow platforms, the Deputy Commissioner along with the team of officers inspected the vermin compost pit, landfill site, leachate tank, tools and plants (T&Ps), the approach road and the protection walls.

Though plagued with issues of skilled manpower, labourers, and other issues, the Department concerned have been making concerted efforts to keep afloat the plant.
