ITANAGAR: Rajiv Gandhi University on Thursday celebrated the National Unity Day (Rashtriya Ekta Diwas) and organized unity run for the varsity’s fraternity on the birth anniversary of Iron Man of India, Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, popularly known as the ‘Unifier of India,’ who contributed to the unification of India's 565 princely states. On this occasion, the lone central university of the state organized the unity run from Doimukh market to the university’s football ground, in which faculty members of RGU also participated along with students.
RGU Registrar Dr. N. T Rikam along with Finance Officer Prof. Otem Padung, flagged off the unity run. A total of 130 students and faculty members participated in this event. RGU vice chancellor Prof. Saket Kushwaha conveyed in his message that Unity Day reinforces the importance of national unity and integration among the youth and citizens, and if everyone keeps the same spirit with their colleagues at their workplace, then the university would reach new heights. “This day inspires us to be proud of our Indian identity and encourages us to work for the betterment of the nation. Being a scientific institution, it is our duty to develop the spirit of national interest and social welfare in our students through our knowledge and teachings, as well as to develop society through our research and increase the prestige of our country,” the VC added. On this occasion, the university fraternity also took the National Unity Pledge.
