ITANAGAR: The Department of Social work, Rajiv Gandhi University (RGU) recently organized a daylong online national dialogue on 'Strategies and Roadmaps for a Holistic, Flexible and Inclusive Higher Education through NEP-2020'.
The recent online national dialogue was graced by the lively and informative deliberations from two of the members of the NEP-2020 drafting committee namely, Prof. Mazhar Asif — the Dean of Centre for Persian and Central Asian Studies, Literature and Culture Studies Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU), New Delhi — and Prof. Ram Shankar Kureel — former Vice Chancellor (VC) of Acharya ND University of Agriculture and Technology, Ayodhya, Uttar Pradesh.
Both the speakers said that the NEP-2020 advocates three key thematic developments: A move from content-driven pedagogy that inspired rote learning to conceptual testing; A 360-degree assessment covering educational, mental, and physical well-being of the students; and an experiential approach through vocational skills, mathematical and computational thinking, and new-age skills such as coding and data science. The motivation is to make Indian learners truly future-ready and global citizens. More than 125 participants representing nearly 20 States cutting across subject domains actively followed the programme.
RGU VC Prof. Saket Kushwaha said that the 'The National Education Policy (NEP)-2020 is a welcome and ambitious re-imagination of India's education system into a modern, progressive and equitable one. "Successful execution of this policy calls for active and informed participation of all the stakeholders including learners, educators and academic administrators alike," said Kushwaha. The VC also highlighted that the policy is holistic and inclusive both in 'intents' as well as 'contents' and the 'prescriptive' as well as 'descriptive' guidelines are transformative, which would change the face of the Indian education system in the years to come.
