PASIGHAT: A review meeting under the Chairmanship of Pasighat Municipal Corporation (PMC) Chief Councilor Okiam Moyong Borang was held on the implementation of parking charges in market areas, at the PMC Conference Hall here on Wednesday.

The meeting was attended by all the councillors and officers of PMC along with PRI representatives of Bogong-I & II and Pasighat Market Association, members of Bogong Banggo and other stakeholders including members of political parties etc.

Chief Councilor (CC)-PMC Okiparking charges, Pasighat Municipal Corporation (PMC) , Okiam Moyong Borangam Moyong Borang informed that according to Adi Bane Kebang Youth Wing (ABKYW), parking charge can be levied only from four designated parking lots in the town and parking shall be rendered free from August 31 onwards.

Presently Rs 10 and Rs 20 are being charged for two-wheelers and four-wheelers at Pasighat.

Borang said that parking is a source of revenue generation, and has been duly delegated to the Urban Local Bodies (ULB) of Arunachal Pradesh by the State government under the provisions of the Arunachal Pradesh Municipal Act, 2007. She sought a constructive solution from the attending members to streamline the parking system at Pasighat Market Square vis-à-vis to realize revenue of the Urban Local Body for sustenance.

After a threadbare discussion, the House resolved that the decisions adopted in the previous meeting held on May 10 under the chairmanship of ADC (HQ) should stand unless reviewed on exigency in consultation with stakeholders of the city.

Meanwhile, the M/s Z.M Enterprises would conduct training and sensitization programmes for parking attendants for an orderly parking system and ensure the safety and security of parked vehicles.

A consultative meeting having representatives from all the NGOs, CBOs, PMA, students bodies, women groups, transport federation etc would be convened one month before the expiry of present tender work on parking to elicit constructive feedback and review the existing parking charges.

The PMC would enhance the existing facilities at parking lots including upgrading the unpaved available space to concrete cement carpeting/ sand gravel filling for the convenience of the citizens and would explore more available pockets for the development of parking lots across the town.
