ITANAGAR: Arunachal Pradesh Chief Secretary Naresh Kumar Tuesday directed the Deputy Commissioner (DC) of Tawang district to take on board the villagers and their representatives for a Final Location Survey (FLS) of the new railway line from Bhalukpong in West Kameng district to Tawang. The railway track would cover a distance of approximately 200 kilometres.

The direction was given to the DC by the Chief Secretary following a video conference with the Guwahati-based Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) General Manager Sunil Sharma, officials said.

Tawang DC Sang Phuntsok informed Kumar that one of the proposed sites for the railway station in Tawang falls in the land of villagers of five villages - Shernup, Jamkhar, Ruikhar, Bekhar, and Boksar, where the overground railway line and railway station has been proposed.

The proposed railway station also passes through a sacred lake known as Tsoh-Manja-Chhenmo falling between Jamkhar and Shernup, the DC informed.

The chief secretary said that since the railway line is of strategic importance for the nation, the site would be selected which is technically feasible and at the same time, villagers should also voluntarily offer the land for the proposed railway station.

Accordingly, it was decided that representatives of all concerned visit the site on June 21 next to finalise the location of the proposed railway station.

Commissioner to Chief Minister Sonam Chombey and Secretary Transport Dani Sulu also attended the meeting, the officials said.
