ITANAGAR: Minister for Sports & Youth Affairs Mama Natung felicitated Tashi Yanjom and Abraham Tagit Sorang for scaling the highest peak in the world, Mount Everest at his office, Civil Secretariat here on Thursday.

Acknowledging the achievement, Natung said that the Sports & Youth Affairs department will ensure all possible help to the achievers in their future endeavors. He also said that that department will provide monetary help to the achievers.

Tashi Yongjam (37) is the first woman to scale Mt. Everest in 2021. She is from the West Kameng district of Arunachal Pradesh and an instructor at Dirang- based National Institute of Mountaineering and Allied Sports (NIMAS).

She scaled the highest peak on May 11.

Meanwhile, Abraham Tagit Sorang is the second mountaineer from the State to scale the highest peak after Tashi Yangjom this year.

Sorang had joined NIMAS, Dirang in the year 2013, when the institute first stepped in the State. He is also the tenth climber from the institute to scale the mountain. He scaled Mt. Everest on May 31.

Among others, Tapi Mra (2009), Tine Mena (2011), Anshu Jamsenpa (2011), Nima Lama and Kalden Paljor (2011), Tame Bagang (2013), Kishon Tekseng and Taka Tamut (2018) scaled the Mt. Everest from the State.
