ITANAGAR: The Border Road Organization (BRO) on Monday opened the main bridge over Sikam Sibu Stream on the Aalo-Mechukha road in Shi-Yomi district in Arunachal Pradesh. The vital bridge was washed away on June 2 last due to heavy landslides thereby snapping the surface communication of the newly created district from the rest of the State. However, the connectivity was restored within a few days after construction of a temporary bridge.
Aalo-Mechukha road is a key link and is strategic for the movement of people, transportation of essential commodities, life-saving drugs, construction materials and movement of defense personnel in the entire district.
The opening of the main bridge is of utmost importance to facilitate easy movement of men and materials and to tackle emergency medical situations including COVID-19.
When contacted, the BRO official informed that the reconstruction work was taken up on a priority basis since it is a vital one for connectivity. We brought in materials from different places and completed the bridge in a record time, he added.
Meanwhile, State Assembly Speaker Pasang D Sona has lauded the BRO for constructing the main bridge in such a short and time-bound manner. "I appreciate the BRO team for constructing the vital bridge in a time-bound manner," Sona tweeted.
